MP Barry Gardiner visits St. Mary's Grammar School

Dated: 04/03/2005

On Friday 4th March 2005 Under Secretary of State Barry Gardiner visited St Mary’s Grammar School Magherafelt.

After a brief tour of the School he was introduced to the students from St Mary’s Grammar and St Patrick’s who competed in the 2004-05 F1 in Schools National Final.

The teams showed Mr Gardiner their team portfolios and the cars that they raced at the National Final. The Minister said: "I am delighted to have this opportunity to visit St Mary’s and see the award winning designs created by its pupils and the pupils of St Patrick’s College.’’

Mr Gardiner praised the success that both teams had enjoyed and wished Hurricane II all the best when they go on to compete at the International Final in Birmingham.

Once the Minister had finished viewing the student’s work he commented: "It is good for pupils to demonstrate their talents in these type of skills and explore career opportunities in subjects such as engineering, science and technology and design. The Formula One in Schools Challenge provides this opportunity and presents engineering in a fun and positive way."
