Congratulations from F1 in School to the 2007 UK National Champions...... TEAM MOMENTUS

Team Momentus from the Gryphon School in Sherborne Dorset saw off competition from 34 other school teams across the country to win the F1 in Schools national finals held at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham on Sunday.

The team, Matt Bugler, Tom Long and Nathan Riley won the South West regional final in December last year, were awarded scholarships by Exeter University, and will now take their place in the world championship finals.

“We really didn’t expect to win,” the team said.

“We’ve enjoyed the challenge of developing our own car and each of us has put in their skills.

"We came up with the name, built a website, we developed a game to test reaction times and another racing one.

“We approached some big companies and local ones and raised funds to compete here from them.”

F1 in Schools chairman Andrew Denford added: “It was such a close run event this year with two stand out teams vying for the overall title, but Momentus just pipped Pulse to win.

"The amount of effort, commitment, research and dedication that all the teams showed this year has taken the competitiveness of this challenge to another level.

“The teams are very resourceful and have applied so many diverse skills in their projects, which I hope will help them in their future careers.”

Now in its seventh year, the worldwide challenge has seen over three million students in 20 countries taking part and is highly regarded by the Formula 1 fraternity as a platform for introducing the sport to a global teen demographic.
