10. Briefly outline the history of your team

This is Affinity F1’s second year as a part of the F1 in Schools Challenge and Thomas Wallace, the project manager, was a competitor at the World Finals in Abu Dhabi last year. This is the first year of competition for the other three team members. The team took first place at the regional competition this year in January as well as winning the caption awards for best portfolio and best pit display. At the national competition, the team won Grand Champions in the United States as well as receiving the award for Fastest Car.

12. Describe your team in three words

Family, Dedicated, Passionate

13. What do you think makes your World Final team unique from other teams?

Every member of the team is involved in much more than just engineering. All of the members are very well-rounded and involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. We aren’t just engineers, we’re future leaders.

14. Magic moment - What has been the most exciting F1 in Schools experience your team has had so far?

The most magical moment that this team has had this year was definitely winning Grand Champions at the national competition in May. Thomas actually started crying a little bit.

15. We can laugh now - Tell us about one of your teams funniest moments, maybe it wasn't so funny at the time!

Due to a lack of funding, we chose to drive to our national competition this year which was 1250 miles (just over 2000 km) away from home.  It seemed like a great idea while planning, but actually getting 15 people, their luggage, and all of our equipment on a small bus was a much more difficult task than we ever dreamed of.  It was definitely an experience we will never forget.

16. What is the biggest challenge in this competition?

The biggest challenge that our team has faced in this competition is definitely been getting the funding to do what we need to do. We live in a small community and there aren’t very many big businesses around that are willing to donate to us, so we have mainly been fundraising through small town shops and businesses. However, we were able to catch a break and attract some attention from bigger corporations as we prepared for our trip to Singapore.

17. What are you most looking forward to at the WFs?

The thing that we are most excited for at the WFs is getting to meet all the people from different countries, and getting to know these people. Having all of these cultures in one area for an entire week will be an amazing experience.

18. What are your expectations for the WFs?

At the WFs this year, we expect to perform to the best of our abilities. This year, we expect to perform better than we ever have before at an F1 in Schools competition and our ultimate goal is to end up on the podium.

19. Do you watch/are you interested in F1?  Who’s your favourite driver(s)?

I am interested in Formula 1 racing and the time that the races usually air don’t line up with my sleep schedule, so I often have to just record them and watch them later. My favourite driver by far is Lewis Hamilton.
