Chromax came together as a team in early 2014 and participated in the F1 in Schools Malaysia Regional Finals, proceeding to the F1 in Schools Malaysia National Final. Chromax won the Pressure Challenge award and came third. This meant they could represent Malaysia as part of a collaboration team with Elemento from China. The original Elemento team were unable to attend the 2015 World Finals, so Red Car Studio took their place (but kept the same name) to form the collaboration team “Maxele Racing”.
11. F1 in Schools achievements so far (i.e. Nat champions, other awards etc.)
For Malaysia, Chromax won the Research And Development Award and First Runner-Up during F1 in Schools Malaysia Regional Finals. They managed to proceed to F1 in Schools Malaysia National Finals. Chromax finally won the Pressure Challenge Award and Second Runner Up. For China, Elemento was one of the participant in Beijing Trial Competition and it was the first time for Elemento to participate in F1 in Schools.
12. Describe your team in three words
Fun, Lucky, Spontaneous
13. What do you think makes your World Final team unique from other teams?
We found our team unique from other because Maxele Racing is the first collaboration team consisting of two Asian team.
14. Magic moment - What has been the most exciting F1 in Schools experience your team has had so far?
For us both Malaysians and Chinese, the magic moment for us is when we got to know that we will be collaborating with each other for the World Finals. We are elated that we had built an exciting relationship between both sides which comes from different countries, different backgrounds, different cultures and also different languages.
15. We can laugh now - Tell us about one of your team’s funniest moments, maybe it wasn't so funny at the time!
The funniest moment for us was when we were exchanging some information between us. Elemento said that they had already sent us some files through e-mail. But, we did not received anything even though we had reloaded the page quite a few times. Then, to sort out this problem, the Chinese team members sent us a screenshot of their e-mail to us through Skype hoping that we could finally figure out what the problem was. After close inspection, we noticed that the problem was only a spelling error all along. Our Chinese team members had actually spelled ‘gamil’ instead of ‘gmail’. When we told them the problems, we all laughed about it.
16. What is the biggest challenge in this competition?
Along our F1 In Schools journey, we went through a lot of hardship and conflicts but the shortage of time is the ultimate challenge for us. Our team members from Malaysia will be having our Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), probably the biggest examination for us students in secondary school in Malaysia. So, time had to be managed perfectly well so that we could balance both F1 in Schools and also our studies. As for our Chinese team members, we were facing the same problem as well. We have to sit for our Final Exams plus, we had also managed our time for the Beijing Trial Competition and also the World Finals.
17. What are you most looking forward to at the WFs?
In this upcoming World Finals, we are really looking forward for new experiences that we will gain during our time there. We are also looking forward for the experience of getting to know students from all around the world. Finally, we can’t wait to meet new friends and grasp as much knowledge as we can.
18. What are your expectations for the WFs?
Every single team participating in the World Finals will want to be crowned the World Champions. So, that is unsurprisingly our ultimate goal. We are also targeting the Best Collaboration Award for this upcoming World Finals.
19. Do you watch/are you interested in F1? Who’s your favourite driver(s)?
The F1 driver who we admire the most is Lewis Hamilton. He has an awesome skills in controlling the F1 car and make an excellent performance in every race that he enters. He also has a lot a great characteristics that can definitely be followed by us, the youths that are interested in sort of knowledge, technology and career.
