Our Aussie collaboration comes in the form of intergalactic team Celestial, who believe their astronomical car will make waves at WFs. Despite struggles to obtain the budget to carry out their project, the team have joined forces with local businesses and created monthly newsletters to maintain contact. Their winning team combination originated at their National Finals where they were located next to each other during Trade Displays, which resulted in a fun and friendly rivalry between their two teams. Covid has taught them not to take life for granted and they all have plans to pursue STEM in their future careers.

With a name inspired by the universe, Dark Matter hope to be pioneers and innovators in their future careers. Through integrity and diligence they have already seen success at their National Finals and hope to continue their goal of inspiring those around them. They have enjoyed spending more time with family during the pandemic despite having to deal with the uncertainty of whether World Finals would be going ahead this year. They are also the proud receivers of a government grant which has allowed them to compete this year.

Describing themselves as experienced and innovative, Team Nebula are joining us all the way from Perth, Australia, bringing with them 20 years of combined experience within F1 in Schools and an ambition to be World Champions. The competition has taught them to be able to adapt their workflow and be more versatile in their preparations, with their biggest challenge lying in the crossover of the competition with their final year at school. Team Nebula love most the speed, strategy and emotion of Formula 1 and being from the same hometown they are big fans of Daniel Riccardo. Their team name is inspired by nebulae in space, where stars are born – perhaps we’ll see our very own F1 in Schools stars born at the World Finals this year.

Another of our collaboration teams come from Malaysia and China in the form of Velionne Racing. Despite both sides of the team being from rural areas, they have big ambitions and are proud of their main partnership with Huawei. A huge asset to Velionne racing has been their collaboration with the University of Malaysia of Pahang with whom they created Velionne Plastic: a new type of plastic to build the wings and wheels of their cars. As well as this achievement, they have started their own ‘first touch program’ with the aim of helping students who are interested in joining the F1 in Schools program. A huge setback for the team came in December of 2020 when floods hit one of their schools, destroying all of their work they had completed so far. They did not let this dampen their spirits and have come back fighting – we are excited to have you team Velionne!

They describe themselves as ‘five fun and determined friends flying and inspiring as champions’ with particular emphasis on promoting women in STEM. Made up of three females and two males, Quintolux are ready to show the World Finals what they are made of. Their key sponsorship with Medtronic has set them up for success with a national television appearance taking place in May 2021 as well as collaborating with Formula Female to run the Go Girls initiative.

Our Portuguese rookies are hoping to rocKet to the top at WFs. They have faced their fair share of obstacles, dealing with poor internet connection while trying to work remotely at home and dealing with a lack of experience in the competition. Their first test car also lost a front wing but they have worked through all of these challenges to come back stronger than ever. F1 in Schools has taught them valuable skills in 3D design programmes which has influenced some of their career choices following their studies at school and they are hoping to make a big impact at their first World Finals. Good luck team rocKet!

Scotland’s female-led National Champions are racing for their country at World Finals with their team name, Genesis, representing their growth and development on their journey. Based on a kingfisher, their car is designed to cut through air efficiently and hit record times. The team have secured sponsorship with primarily Scottish companies located from Edinburgh to the Scottish Highlands and all have hopes of having careers in STEM thanks to F1 in Schools. Their history of races – achieving their fastest time and having a car explode- have given them good experience for this year’s World Finals. We are happy to have you Genesis!

One of our representatives of the United Kingdom comes in the form of Britannia Red, suitably named to represent their country. As twice National Champions they describe themselves as passionate, dedicated and determined to win. Despite it being their biggest challenge, their strong relationships with their sponsors will prove to be one of their greatest assets, as they have also created a tool to help with their manufacturing accuracy. Their remote working hasn’t stopped them from working hard on their car and they are proud of the wealth of skills and knowledge they have gained from the process. With too many favourite drivers to name, they love the inspiration that Formula One provides and hope to go on to study various STEM subjects in the future.

With a rich history of awards from previous F1 in Schools competitions, Brazilian Six are from Sao Paolo and have the hope of empowering their country. Their focus is on giving back to their home and helping to make it a better place which they have already made huge steps towards. They recently created a library of 1200 books and they also planted 12 trees, as well as providing English and literacy classes in their local communities. At the forefront of their work is sustainability, with reused wood and electronic devices prioritised over plastic. Brazilian Six have refused to let the pandemic get in their way, instead promoting their work and raising money by making and selling masks and hand sanitiser as well as creating podcasts and hosting interviews. A memorable highlight of theirs so far was their Brazilian Six carnival hosted before the start of lockdown in February – let’s hope they continue the party at the World Finals!

Another of our teams joining us all the way from Brazil are SESI/SENAI SC SPARK. Their use of the term ‘spark’ not only describes the speed of F1 cars, but also describes the spark in each individual team member, which when collaborating and working together, can generate large flames and have a big impact. Brazil’s National Champions are hoping to demonstrate their authenticity, determination and innovation at this year’s World Finals as well hoping to inspire change in young people’s lives around the world. Their strategic sales and marketing plan is something they are looking forward to presenting and is something they have managed to successfully work on together despite face-to-face interaction being impossible. Team Zenna are one of our four collaboration teams this year and they have chosen a name perfect for the occasion. Combining the Greek god Zeus and with one of F1’s most compelling personalities, Ayrton Senna, they have created the name Zenna to represent their fun, ambitious and innovative team. Coming from both Greece and Brazil they aim to collaborate to be the world’s best: ‘think of it as a mix between capoeira and syrtaki with some sprinkles of engineering and entrepreneurship.’ They have enjoyed getting creative in class, with the help of some pizza along the way, and have learnt how to communicate effectively. They have big ambitions to be involved in F1 in their future careers.

Cyclone Racing are certainly a force to be reckoned with, joining us from the USA with big ambitions for this year’s World Finals. Having lost their team manager and team resource manager after the National Finals, and with one of their members getting Covid weeks before their Nationals, they are used to working against the clock. This includes their last minute ‘either genius or crazy’ last minute fix after finding out they had used the wrong measurements the day before their car was posted to the UK ahead of their finals. Their team is made up of all females with one lone boy who, in their own words, is the dedicated nerd of the group. Their love for outside the box thinking has got them this far and we can’t wait to see where they end up at World Finals this year.

They are currently Red Bulls biggest fans, particularly Sergio ‘checo’ Perez, who they would like to thank for representing Mexico in F1 and they are hoping to use their teamwork and passion to make an impact at the World Finals.

With a name stemming from wolf packs and their desire to win they have huge ambitions and describe themselves as feisty, curious and free-spirited. Their unique individual skills make up a winning combination and they enjoy spending time together and leaning on each other’s energy. While they haven’t been able to do this as much during the pandemic, a highlight of theirs was winning Entry Level Champions in 2019 where they enjoyed the buzz of racing their car and getting a quick time. One of their members is now pursuing a career in Environmental policy having learnt about sustainable energy during F1 in Schools.

They are big fans of Sergio Perez at Red Bull and love to watch the drivers of F1.
