SILVERSTONE TO HOST ARAMCO F1® IN SCHOOLS

WORLD FINALS 2022

Picture
F1® in Schools is delighted to announce that the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 will be held at Silverstone, UK, from 9-15 July, with the world famous circuit hosting this prestigious event for the first time.

The 17th edition of the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals will celebrate outstanding STEM achievements, bringing together over 40 student teams from across the world, competing for the Aramco F1® in Schools World Champions title. Award category trophies, supported by the Formula 1® teams, will also be presented to teams exhibiting STEM excellence in disciplines including project management, engineering, sustainability, sponsorship and marketing.

Silverstone, the home of the FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2022, which wil be held just ahead of this year’s World Finals, is a fitting venue for the event. The circuit’s iconic Wing International Conference and Exhibition Centre will provide all the facilities and space needed for this hybrid event, hosting students and delivering virtual content against the backdrop of the Formula 1® circuit.

The largest event space in the Wing will be transformed into a live studio with the F1® in Schools racetrack taking centre-stage as competing teams watch from the ‘pitlane’. A live feed from the Wing will take the action into schools and homes around the globe, with the teams competing virtually and fellow students, supporters and F1® in Schools fans watching all the action from the first race, to the crowning of the World Champions.

Student teams attending the event will be able to visit Formula Student, a degree level engineering competition, with over 100 international university teams showcasing and testing their single-seat race cars, which is also taking place at Silverstone during the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals. The Silverstone Interactive Museum will also be on the agenda, with this educational centre for British Motorsport, located just outside the circuit, giving teams the opportunity to discover its stars, stories and science through interactive exhibits and displays. The attending student teams will have their visit completed with factory tours to some of the F1® teams based in the UK.

Andrew Denford, Founder and Chairman, F1® in Schools said, “it’s our 17th World Finals event this year and only the fourth time that we’ve held it at ‘home’. It’s great to be welcoming our international teams to the UK, both in person and virtually, and we’re indebted to Aramco for their invaluable support to make this such a great event and giving our world finals teams the experience of a lifetime. It’s fitting that we’ll be hosted at Silverstone, where many of our students have not only watched F1® in action, with many of our former students now employed by race teams who regularly compete at the circuit. I’m looking forward to meeting all our 2022 teams in July.”

Talal Marri, General Manager, Public Affairs, Aramco, said: “Aramco is happy to support F1 in Schools in bringing its World Finals 2022 to Silverstone, the traditional home of F1. Many F1 racing teams, as well as prestigious road car brands, have their factories in this region. It is the exact right location for students to learn about engineering, innovation, design and other STEM topics that we are so passionate about”

Stephane Bazire, Head of Sustainabiliy, Silverstone, added, “It’s great to have the Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals 2022 at Silverstone and put the spotlight on the home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix 2022. We look forward to welcoming all the students and showcasing our fantastic circuit and the facilities on site.

“We recognise the importance of nurturing young talent, whether this is a racing driver, a motorsport engineer, an event organiser or a marketing executive and every role in between, and as part of this, encouraging a sustainable mindset, to help shape the future for our venue and for the sport. F1 in Schools is an innovative STEM initiative to inspire and educate about the opportunities offered by the motorsport industry and as part of this industry, we’re pleased to be supporting the World Finals and future generations of motorsport pitlane talent. “
