Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 to showcase STEM talent

This summer, the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 returns to Silverstone’s Wing International Conference and Exhibition Centre to crown the 17th World Champions.

With 53 teams competing, the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 is much bigger than the F1® grid, but with up to six students in each of the F1® in Schools teams, their ‘paddock’ will be a lot smaller – as are the cars, with each F1® in Schools team creating an F1® car just 17 cm long and 50g in weight.

Silverstone’s Wing International Conference and Exhibition Centre, with its Formula 1® garages at ground level and paddock club hospitality above, will be transformed into a stage set and racetrack for the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022. The 53 teams from 25 countries will all be competing for the World Champions crown and coveted university scholarships from UCL Engineering. 34 teams will be on site in Silverstone to experience the event ‘in person’ with 19 teams participating virtually, and to maintain a level playing field the judging sessions will be virtual for all teams.

The five-day programme starts with team registration, a visit to Formula Student and the Silverstone Interactive Museum. The opening ceremony will prelude three days of judging, with enterprise and engineering portfolio submissions, presentations and, of course, racing, including the nail-biting Knock-out challenge - with the F1® in Schools cars reaching speeds of up to 80kmh on the official F1® in Schools 20 metre racetrack. The crowning of the World Champions will be the climax of the event, with an Official After Party planned to take place in the F1® Garages to round off the celebrations.

Andrew Denford, Founder and CEO, F1® in Schools, said, “We’re so excited to be welcoming teams back to attend a World Finals event. The competitors will get the chance to savour the atmosphere of a Grand Prix venue and share the experience with their fellow F1 in Schools teams from around the world who have all won places at the World Finals. We’re putting together a schedule of activities, talks and events that will keep the students busy, whether they’re with us on screen or in person!”

Talal H. Al-Marri, General Manager of Public Affairs, Aramco said, “Aramco is proud to serve as title sponsor of the Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals, as part of our commitment to support STEM growth in new and exciting ways. We see in these bright young students the very same passion for engineering excellence and innovation that drives our work. As they think outside the box to build a better race car, they inspire us with their ingenuity. In turn, we aim to inspire them to use their talents to change the world.”

The Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 is held with the support of a host of sponsors including Formula 1®, Aramco, Denford, Autodesk, FIA Women in Motorsport, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, UCL Mechanical Engineering, Project Management Institute Educational Foundation, FIA Action for Road Safety and F1® Manager 22.
