WORLD CHAMPION TEENS RECEIVE

​ARAMCO F1® IN SCHOOLS 2021 TROPHY

Team “Britannia Red,” from Robert May’s School in Hampshire, UK, were the proud recipients of their long-awaited Aramco F1® in Schools 2020(21) World Champions trophy recently, which was presented to them by Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 President and CEO. 
 
The team of six 16 and 17-year-old students won the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2020(21) in June this year, with the virtual event precluding the talented youngsters from receiving the trophy in person. Today’s presentation at Formula 1’s headquarters in London gave the team the opportunity to celebrate their achievement and share their F1® in Schools story with Stefano. 
 
 Amelia Doward, Team Manager, 16, Callum Green, 16, Zachary Taylor, 17, Edward Hodgson, 17, Caolmhe Thomas, 16 and Abigail Bessant, 16, soaked up the atmosphere at the Formula 1 headquarters and enjoyed showing Stefano their portfolio of work and their title-winning car.  They also presented an overview of their F1® in Schools journey, outcomes, and future ambitions. Needless to say, Britannia Red are keen to pursue careers in the industry. 
 
They said of today’s visit “Coming to the Formula 1 offices has been amazing. We were blown away by the 2022 car in the foyer and all the helmets on display, it’s been very inspiring.”
 
“The highlight has been talking to Stefano on a personal level and him giving us advice about our futures in Formula 1, which is where we all want to be. We’re not ready right now to go into a career in F1, this is just a stepping stone and we have to use this as a springboard to our future learning and we need to continue to work hard to get there.   

“F1 in Schools has really benefited us, not only with the academic learning and the life skills we’ve gained but also the contacts we’ve made and people we’ve met, it’s so much more than just a STEM competition”.
 
In the competition, student teams from around the globe take on their international rivals at the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals, after having won at the national level. They design and develop a scale model F1® in Schools car with advanced engineering and produce highly creative and instructive presentations of their teams.  The students build cars that have the speed to compete with the best in the world. Britannia Red had collaborated for three years in pursuit of the World Champions title and their hard work paid off, winning them the coveted Aramco F1® in Schools World Champions trophy and valuable university scholarships to UCL Engineering, London.
 
Stefano Domenicali said; “I was very happy to present Britannia Red with their trophy and meet such a wonderfully talented group of young engineers and see their winning car first-hand, I hope to see them one day in the F1 paddock! It is great to see F1 in Schools encourage children from backgrounds to get involved and learn about STEM subjects, which is one of the most important aspects of our sport.”
